How to Ensure a Quality Repair
Your windshield is classified as a “safety device” because it provides structural strength to the body of your vehicle and supports inflation and performance of passenger side airbags. This being said, it is vital to ensure a grade A repair is made when having your windshield replaced. The quality and proper installation of the auto glass adhesive is equally as important as the quality of the windshield.

Windshield Replacement or Repair: What Does My Car Need?
Glass Doctor can repair most chipped windshields. Chips that are over one inch (25 mm) in diameter usually require windshield replacement to protect the structural integrity of the glass and the safety of the car’s occupants. A windshield replacement is also most likely needed if a damaged area obstructs the driver’s view.
When deciding if you need to have your windshield repaired or replaced, consider these three factors:
- Size—There are a few exceptions, but chips larger than one inch in diameter may require windshield replacement.
- Location—Cracks that run all the way to the edge of the windshield typically require replacement, due to their tendency to spread. Chips or cracks directly in the driver’s line of vision require replacement as well.
- Timespan—The longer you leave chips unaddressed, the more likely dirt will build up. Dirt accumulation inside a chip makes it difficult to perform a successful repair and makes windshield replacement the better option.
